Data for Optimised Reasoning and Unified Modelling

Seque – Terms of Service

Effective Date: 1 January 2026

Last Updated: 1 April 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you or the organisation you represent ("Customer", "you") and DFORUM (Pty) Ltd ("Data for Optimised Reasoning and Unified Modelling", "we", "us"), governing your access to and use of Seque, including the browser extension, agent, admin panel, audit export, and any associated backend services (collectively, the "Service").

By installing the extension, activating a licence, or using any part of the Service, you agree to these Terms in full.

1. Description of Service

Seque is a data loss reduction (DLR) tool designed to detect and redact sensitive organisational information, including personal identifiers, financial data, and confidential documents before it is submitted to public AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and others.

The Service operates as a browser extension with an optional agent component. It intercepts user input in the browser, classifies content against configurable policy rules, anonymises or blocks sensitive data, and generates tamper evident audit logs for compliance and governance purposes.

2. Data and Privacy

2.1 What the Extension Processes

The extension processes text input and file content entered by users in supported AI platforms solely for the purpose of classifying and redacting sensitive data before transmission. Classification occurs locally in the browser. Only flagged metadata (classifier type, redaction status, timestamp, user identifier) is transmitted to DFORUM's backend for audit purposes, not the underlying sensitive content.

2.2 Audit Logs

Audit logs record DLR events, policy decisions, and anonymisation actions. These logs are the Customer's data. DFORUM processes them on your behalf as a data processor and does not use them for any commercial purpose.

2.3 Data Retention

Audit log data is retained for the duration of your subscription plus 90 days following termination. At the end of that period an automated process irreversibly erases your organisation's data: identifying fields are destroyed, credentials revoked, and audit records stripped of everything that links them to you or your users. You may request an export at any point before that.

Erasure removes the data, not the record that events occurred. Audit entries are linked by a hash chain that makes tampering detectable, and deleting rows outright would break that chain for records belonging to other customers. The entries therefore remain as anonymous, unattributable rows. They carry no identifier, hostname, or fingerprint that can be traced back to you, and cannot be reversed.

2.4 POPIA and GDPR Alignment

DFORUM processes personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) and, where applicable, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). A Data Processing Agreement (DPA) is available on request for Enterprise customers.

2.5 No AI Training

DFORUM does not use Customer data or audit logs to train machine learning models.

3. Licence and Permitted Use

3.1 Grant of Licence

Subject to these Terms and payment of applicable fees, DFORUM grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the Service for your internal business operations during the subscription period.

3.2 Licence Seats

Each subscription plan specifies a maximum number of authorised users ("seats"). You may not exceed the seat limit associated with your plan without upgrading your subscription. Seat counts are enforced via cryptographically signed licence keys issued by DFORUM.

3.3 Restrictions

You must not:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the Service.
  • Circumvent, disable, or tamper with licence validation, DLR enforcement, or audit logging mechanisms.
  • Redistribute, sublicense, resell, or white label the Service without DFORUM's prior written consent.
  • Use the Service in a manner that violates applicable law or the rights of any third party.
  • Attempt to use the Service to intentionally introduce or transmit malicious code.

4. Intellectual Property

4.1 DFORUM Ownership

The Service, including all software, classification models, policy logic, UI, and documentation, is and remains the exclusive property of DFORUM. These Terms do not transfer any intellectual property rights to you.

4.2 Customer Data

You retain all ownership of your organisational data. You grant DFORUM a limited licence to process that data solely to deliver the Service.

4.3 Feedback

If you provide feedback or suggestions regarding the Service, DFORUM may incorporate that feedback without obligation or compensation to you.

5. Availability and Support

5.1 Service Availability

DFORUM will use reasonable efforts to keep the Service operational. Planned maintenance will be communicated with reasonable advance notice. A Service Level Agreement setting out uptime and response commitments is available to Enterprise customers by separate written agreement; no subscription plan includes an SLA by default.

Enforcement does not depend on this Service. Classification and blocking run locally in the browser extension, so if the DFORUM backend is unreachable the extension continues to block, anonymise and warn as configured. Availability affects licensing, reporting and administration, not protection.

5.2 Support Channels

  • Individual: Email support at connect@dfum.org (business hours).
  • Team: Email support at connect@dfum.org (business hours).
  • Enterprise: Priority email support at connect@dfum.org.
  • Trial: Email support at connect@dfum.org (business hours), for the duration of the 7-day trial.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Circumvent DLR controls for the purpose of exfiltrating data.
  • Monitor individuals in a manner that violates applicable privacy law.
  • Process data categories that exceed your organisation's authorised use under POPIA or equivalent legislation without appropriate safeguards.

DFORUM reserves the right to suspend access immediately if it determines, in its reasonable judgement, that your use poses a legal, security, or reputational risk.

7. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS". TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, DFORUM DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

SEQUE IS A DLR CONTROL AND COMPLIANCE LAYER AND DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT ALL SENSITIVE DATA WILL BE DETECTED OR BLOCKED IN EVERY CIRCUMSTANCE. CUSTOMERS REMAIN RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN DATA GOVERNANCE AND COMPLIANCE OBLIGATIONS.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DFORUM'S TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE FEES PAID BY YOU IN THE SIX (6) MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

IN NO EVENT SHALL DFORUM BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF REVENUE, OR REPUTATIONAL HARM, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

9. Term and Termination

9.1 Term

These Terms commence on the date you first use the Service and remain in effect for the duration of your active subscription.

9.2 Termination by Customer

You may cancel your subscription at any time by contacting connect@dfum.org. Cancellation takes effect on the last day of the month in which you cancel, and your debit order is cancelled so that no further payment is collected. You retain full access until that date.

If you are on a monthly subscription, the current month is not refunded; you receive the Service for all of it. If you are on an annual subscription, every remaining month of your term is refunded in full. The Refund Policy sets out the process and timing.

9.3 Termination by DFORUM

DFORUM may suspend or terminate your access immediately if you:

  • Breach these Terms and fail to cure within 7 days of written notice.
  • Engage in fraudulent, abusive, or unlawful use of the Service.
  • Become insolvent or enter into liquidation.

9.4 Effect of Termination

Upon termination, your licence keys are revoked and access to the Service ceases. You may request an export of your audit logs before the end of the retention period defined in Section 2.3.

10. Disputes

Any dispute arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Cape Town, South Africa. Before commencing formal proceedings, the parties agree to attempt good-faith resolution through direct negotiation for a period of up to 30 days.

11. Changes to These Terms

DFORUM may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or an in product notice at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
